You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. James 2:20-24
I was an adult when I was saved. I was married and already away from my hometown. I am thankful that I was taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off my old self, which was being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of my mind. (Ephesians 4:22-23)
However, recently I moved “home”. God has stretched me in the past, but nothing stretches me like the familiar. When I lived hundreds of miles away I could live my faith filled life with my church family. I was surrounded by solid Christian friends and guidance.
Now I am in the middle of my “old” life trying to live a “new” life. The past six years God has been preparing me for this day. The day when my faith must be put into action. My family and friends have been hearing about my faith, now I am here to live it.
I am a sinner and I am not perfect. They will see me have not so good days. However, words are only words until I put them into action.
It would be easy to slip back into my old self. I am so glad that the word of God is living and active (Hebrews 4:12).
The Word that I profess to believe is active. It is not just the words in a book, it is a way of life. Abraham’s faith was made complete by what he did.
It is my prayer that one day when I look back on this stop in my journey of life I will know without a doubt that someday I will hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

OH Amy!! I know! I make quick visits home just to not run into anyone from the “old” life. It is easy being a Christian among Christians. It’s another thing when surrounded by unbelievers, especially ones who knew you in the past!
Wow! What a ministry position you have been put into! This is what it’s all about though, living out our faith in front of others. Cling to Him!

Home is where it’s the hardest – for sure. All those old friends and habits are hard to ignore. May God richly bless you in this tough time. He will not give you more than you can handle, but you have to be the one to put the trowel to the ground. Awesome post – reminds me to put my actions where my mouth is – especially at home!
Oh yeah, haha, came by from iFellowship and so happy I did~
